New Patients—What to expect

First Time Patients

We love to see new patients. Patients can expect to be greeted by our receptionist when they arrive, we endeavor to learn your name and those of your family quickly. First time patients will have a few papers to fill out, so please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment.

Unless you have x-rays (with you) from your previous dentist that are relatively recent, Rashelle will likely take a set of x-rays to assist me in determining your dental health. I will also conduct an oral and soft tissue exam and listen to any complaints or concerns you have about your dental health. Based on this I will develop a treatment plan designed to maintain your optimal dental health. We will discuss alternative treatments and when necessary establish a priority of treatment. Of course all this is done with your full involvement.

One of my front desk team members will discuss payment and if desired financing information with you.

We want your experience at Dr. Kim's Family Dental to be a very positive one.

But I only want this tooth filled

Some patients only wish me to repair their chief complaint. I can do this. However, as treatment planning is the standard of care (society's and the legal system's current expectation of care), I must take x-rays, conduct an oral/soft tissue exam, and inform the patient of what oral deficiencies I note (treatment planning). Given this information, each patient can make an informed choice of what dental work they do and do not wish done. I strongly advise that you read my page on preventive dental care, which I can summarize in one statement - you will feel better and it will cost you less if you maintain your dental health through periodic, routine visits to your dentist.
